The Doublespark Trust Framework

A Different Kind Of Agency Partnership

Scepticism about SEO agencies is earned. Opaque reporting, long-term lock-ins, and junior staff hiding behind account managers have given the industry a credibility problem. We set out to fix that in our own practice. Trading since 2005, every commitment below is structural - built into how we work, not something we say and quietly walk back.

A Better Agency Relationship Starts With Clear Commitments Like These:

1) Contracts

30-day rolling agreements - no 12-month lock-ins

We reject the industry standard of annual retainers. Our agreements run on a simple 30-day notice period, which means we earn the right to continue each month based on the results we deliver — not the paperwork you signed. This removes the financial risk of committing to an agency that underdelivers, and keeps us permanently focused on outcomes that matter to your business.

30-day notice - No exit fees - Month-by-month renewal

2) Ownership

You own everything - accounts, data, and all assets

Some agencies treat your accounts as their leverage. We do not. From day one, you retain full ownership of Google Search Console, GA4, Google Ads, and every data set we build or manage. If you ever choose to move on, you take everything with you — no "transfer fees", no proprietary lock-in, no data held to ransom. Your brand, your data, your decision.

Full GSC & GA4 ownership - No lock-in - Clean handover guaranteed

3) Reporting

Leads and revenue - not rankings and vanity metrics

Ranking reports are easy to produce and easy to spin. We focus on what your business actually cares about: qualified leads, cost per lead, and measurable revenue contribution. Our monthly reports — built using Semrush, Ahrefs, and Google Search Console — include honest commentary on what worked, what did not, and what we are adjusting. No selective data, no unexplained dashboards.

Lead focus - Semrush & Ahrefs powered - Honest miss analysis

4) People

Senior specialists on your work- not account handlers

When you meet with us in Cambridge or Peterborough, you meet the people who will actually execute your strategy. There are no business development staff acting as a buffer, and no junior teams doing the work once the pitch is won. The strategists who review your brief are the same people who build your technical recommendations and monitor your results month to month.

Senior-led delivery - No juniors - Cambridge & Peterborough based

5) Strategy

Ethical, future-proof methods - no shortcuts that backfire

We do not use manipulative tactics, link schemes, or AI-generated content designed to game systems rather than serve readers. These approaches carry real risk — a single algorithm update can wipe years of apparent progress. Instead, we build on technical excellence, structured data, and content optimised for both traditional search and the emerging demands of AEO and GEO.

No penalty-risk tactics - Standards-based methods - AEO & GEO ready

6) Transparency

Clear communication - no jargon, no hidden activity

You will always know what we are doing and why. Every action we take is explained in plain English, every decision is documented, and every month you receive a report that tells the full story — not just the highlights. We treat you as a capable business owner who deserves straight answers, not carefully managed updates designed to obscure underperformance.

Plain-English reporting - No hidden activity - Full strategic visibility

A Word from Our Founder

Head-and-shoulders photo of Gary Cottam in the office with a relaxed smile

Gary Cottam founded Doublespark in 2005 with a straightforward belief: that a good agency should never need a long contract to keep its clients.

Twenty years later, that belief is still the foundation of how we work. Every commitment on this page - the 30-day rolling agreements, full account ownership, senior-led delivery - came directly from conversations with business owners who had been let down by agencies that hid behind paperwork and opaque reporting. We built the Trust Framework because we wanted to do the opposite.

Why transparency matters more than promises

Any agency can promise results. What most will not promise is to give you back everything and walk away cleanly if things are not working. We will. Your Google Search Console, your GA4, your ad accounts - they are yours from day one, and they stay yours. That is not standard practice in this industry. It should be.

You will always deal with the person doing the work

When we speak about senior-led delivery, it is not a positioning statement. I review every brief personally, and the strategists you meet at the start of a project are the same people executing it month to month. There are no account managers acting as a relay between you and the people who actually understand your site. If you have a question, you get a direct answer from someone who knows the full picture.

Let's talk about what you need

If you have been burned by a previous agency, or you are simply looking for a partner who operates differently, I am happy to have an honest conversation about what good looks like for your business.

FAQs About The Trust Framework

Why is trust so important when choosing a digital marketing agency?

Trust is one of the most important factors when choosing a digital marketing agency because you are handing over part of your reputation, budget, and growth strategy. A trustworthy agency should be open about what it does, realistic about results, and consistent in how it communicates. Many businesses have been let down by vague promises or unclear reporting, so knowing you can rely on your agency makes a real difference to long-term success.

Transparency builds confidence

When an agency explains its strategy clearly, provides honest feedback, and shows you what is happening behind the scenes, it becomes much easier to make informed decisions. You should know what work is being carried out, why it matters, and how it supports your business goals. That level of openness removes uncertainty and helps build a stronger working relationship.

Trust supports better long-term results

Digital marketing is rarely about one quick fix. It works best when there is a long-term partnership based on shared goals, accountability, and clear communication. If you trust your agency, you can plan with more confidence, make better decisions, and stay focused on the bigger picture rather than constantly questioning the process.

Choosing a trustworthy agency gives you far more than marketing support - it gives you confidence in the direction of your growth.

You benefit from honest advice, clear communication, and a partnership built for long-term success.

How do I know if a digital marketing agency is genuinely trustworthy?

Knowing whether a digital marketing agency is truly trustworthy comes down to looking beyond the sales pitch. A reliable agency should be able to explain its methods clearly, provide evidence of past success, and speak honestly about what it can and cannot achieve. Trust is usually built through consistency, professionalism, and a willingness to answer difficult questions directly rather than avoiding them.

Look for proof and clarity

A trustworthy agency should be able to show real examples of work, case studies, testimonials, or long-standing client relationships. It should also explain how campaigns are managed, how results are measured, and what you can expect at each stage. Clear answers and practical examples are usually better signs of trustworthiness than big claims.

Pay attention to how they communicate

Often, trust is visible in the way an agency handles communication. Are they responsive, straightforward, and realistic, or do they overpromise and avoid specifics? Agencies that value long-term relationships tend to be honest from the outset, even when the answer is not what a prospective client hoped to hear.

A trustworthy agency should make you feel informed, not pressured or confused.

You should expect openness, evidence, and honest communication from the very beginning.

Can I trust an agency that promises fast results?

You should be cautious when an agency promises fast results without properly understanding your business, market, and starting point. While some marketing channels can generate quicker wins than others, meaningful and sustainable growth usually takes time. Trustworthy agencies are honest about timeframes and explain the difference between immediate activity and long-term performance improvement.

Some channels move faster than others

Paid advertising can generate traffic and leads quite quickly once campaigns go live, particularly if the targeting and offer are strong. However, channels such as SEO, content marketing, and reputation building take longer because they rely on authority, relevance, and consistency. A good agency will explain which parts of your strategy can move quickly and which require patience.

Be wary of unrealistic guarantees

If an agency promises instant rankings, overnight success, or dramatic returns with little context, that is usually a warning sign. Sustainable digital marketing depends on testing, data, refinement, and ongoing improvement. Trustworthy agencies set realistic expectations so you understand what progress should look like and how it will be achieved.

Fast results can happen in the right areas, but trust comes from honesty about what is realistic.

We believe clear expectations and sustainable growth matter far more than empty promises.

How do transparent reports help build trust?

Transparent reporting helps build trust because it gives you a clear view of what your agency is doing and whether the work is making a difference. Without good reporting, it becomes difficult to understand performance, question strategy, or see where your budget is going. Clear, honest reports turn digital marketing from something vague into something measurable and accountable.

Clear data creates accountability

Good reporting should go beyond surface-level numbers. It should show the key metrics that matter to your business, explain what has changed, and connect activity to outcomes such as leads, sales, or visibility. When agencies report clearly, they make it easier for clients to see both progress and areas that still need improvement.

Insights matter as much as numbers

Trustworthy reporting is not just about sharing charts. It is about explaining what the numbers mean, why certain decisions were made, and what happens next. That context helps clients feel informed rather than overwhelmed, and it creates a more collaborative relationship between agency and business.

Reporting should give you confidence, not just data.

When reporting is clear, honest, and useful, trust grows naturally.

Why do long-term client relationships matter on a trust page?

Long-term client relationships are one of the strongest signals of trust because they show that an agency has consistently delivered value over time. In digital marketing, clients rarely stay with an agency for years unless they feel supported, informed, and confident in the work being done. Longevity often says more than a polished sales message ever could.

Retention reflects satisfaction

When clients continue working with an agency year after year, it usually means the relationship is built on results, communication, and reliability. It suggests that the agency has adapted as the client’s needs have changed and has remained proactive rather than reactive. Strong retention is often a sign that the agency has earned trust rather than simply won a contract.

Consistency builds deeper understanding

Long-standing relationships also allow an agency to develop a much better understanding of a client’s business, audience, and commercial goals. That deeper knowledge leads to better strategy, faster decision-making, and more effective campaigns. Over time, the relationship becomes more valuable because trust and knowledge grow together.

Long-term partnerships show that trust has been built through action, not just words.

They demonstrate reliability, consistency, and the ability to deliver value over the long run.

Should a trustworthy agency explain what it is doing each month?

Yes, a trustworthy agency should explain what it is doing each month and how that work supports your broader goals. Digital marketing can involve technical work, strategic planning, content development, campaign management, and analysis, so it is important that clients are not left guessing. Clear monthly communication shows that the agency respects your investment and values accountability.

Visibility creates confidence

When you know what work is being completed, it becomes easier to understand progress and ask better questions. Whether it is campaign optimisation, technical SEO improvements, new content, or testing ad copy, you should be able to see how activity connects to performance. That visibility helps reduce confusion and strengthens the client-agency relationship.

Explanation supports better decision-making

Agencies should not only say what they have done, but also explain why it matters. This helps business owners and marketing teams make informed decisions about priorities, budget, and next steps. Regular explanation turns marketing from a black box into a process you can follow and trust.

Clients should never feel disconnected from the work happening on their behalf.

Regular explanation builds confidence, keeps everyone aligned, and strengthens trust over time.

Do reviews and testimonials really help establish trust?

Yes, reviews and testimonials can play a major role in establishing trust because they give prospective clients insight into other people’s real experiences. While every business should still do its own checks, genuine feedback can help show whether an agency is reliable, communicative, and capable of delivering results. Social proof often helps reduce uncertainty when comparing providers.

Independent feedback adds credibility

Testimonials on a website are useful, but independent reviews can be even more powerful because they offer third-party validation. They often reveal how an agency communicates, how problems are handled, and whether clients feel supported over time. Patterns in feedback can be especially revealing, whether positive or negative.

Case studies provide useful context

Alongside reviews, case studies can help explain what kind of work was carried out and what outcomes were achieved. This gives potential clients a more complete picture than a simple star rating alone. Together, reviews and case studies help turn trust from a vague feeling into something more concrete and evidence-based.

Client feedback helps show how an agency performs in real working relationships.

Reviews, testimonials, and case studies all help strengthen trust when they are genuine and relevant.

How does honest communication improve trust in digital marketing?

Honest communication improves trust because digital marketing is full of moving parts, changing conditions, and decisions that affect performance over time. Clients need clear answers, realistic expectations, and straightforward updates to feel confident in the relationship. When communication is honest, even difficult conversations become easier to manage because there is a shared understanding of what is happening and why.

It prevents misunderstandings

One of the biggest causes of frustration in agency relationships is unclear communication. If goals, timelines, or performance are not explained properly, clients can quickly lose confidence. Honest communication keeps expectations aligned and makes it easier to address challenges early rather than allowing confusion to build.

It strengthens working relationships

Businesses do not expect perfection, but they do expect honesty. If a campaign underperforms, a trustworthy agency should explain why and outline the next steps. If something is working well, it should show what is driving that success. That level of candour makes partnerships stronger and more productive.

Trust grows when communication is consistent, clear, and grounded in reality.

We believe honesty is essential to building confident, long-term client relationships.

Why should I trust an agency with access to my website and marketing accounts?

Giving an agency access to your website, analytics, ad platforms, and search tools is a major step, so trust is essential. These systems contain valuable business data and often directly affect your visibility, leads, and sales. A professional agency should treat that access responsibly, work carefully, and make sure you understand what permissions are being used and why.

Professional handling of access matters

A trustworthy agency should follow clear processes when requesting access, managing permissions, and making changes. Access should be appropriate to the task, and there should be transparency around what has been updated. Good account management protects your business while also making collaboration smoother and more secure.

Ownership and clarity are important

Clients should always know what platforms are in use, what accounts exist, and who controls them. A reliable agency will not create confusion around ownership or lock you out of essential systems. Instead, it should make sure your business retains visibility and control while still benefiting from expert support.

Trust matters even more when an agency is working directly inside your digital infrastructure.

You should expect careful access management, transparency, and full respect for your business assets.

What makes a digital marketing partnership feel dependable over time?

A dependable digital marketing partnership is built on consistency over time rather than one impressive meeting or one strong month of results. Businesses need to know their agency will stay proactive, communicate clearly, and keep working towards agreed goals even as conditions change. Dependability often shows up in the day-to-day details of how an agency operates.

Consistency matters more than noise

Dependable agencies do the basics well every month. They follow through on actions, provide updates when promised, respond in a timely way, and keep campaigns moving forward. This consistency builds trust because clients know what to expect and do not feel they have to chase for answers or progress.

Reliability supports better performance

Marketing performance improves when there is a stable process behind it. Regular review, ongoing optimisation, and steady communication all create an environment where better decisions can be made. When an agency is dependable, clients can focus more on growth and less on whether the work is being handled properly.

Dependability is one of the clearest signs that an agency takes its responsibilities seriously.

Reliable service, consistent communication, and steady execution are what turn trust into long-term confidence.
